At their high school’s 20th anniversary reunion in 1992, the alumni of Toronto’s Overlea Secondary — now Marc Garneau Collegiate — decided to use the leftover cash from the party on a scholarship for promising new grads.
Since then, the Overlea Garneau Alumni Association has raised more than $200,000 and given out more than $140,000 in scholarships to students of the school that serves the struggling communities of Flemingdon and Thorncliffe Park.

MGCI Chemistry Christmas Shows
In 1981, Chemistry teachers, Mr. Chamberlain and Mr. Oslinger introduced a pre-Christmas production of short skits that involved chemical demonstrations and humour. From that starting point, these shows morphed into satirical spoofs on current movies and topics such as “The Phantom of Overlea” (from Phantom of the Opera) and “Men in Black”. Read More

A Book About A 37 Year Teaching Experience at Overlea/Garneau
In comparison to any other teachers, I was lucky to have the longest teaching career at this school. I thought it was incumbent me to record my experiences and perhaps in doing so provide some insights into the profession of teaching for those who are considering a teaching career or those who are already involved.
